Senior Firefighter Gabe Hannah
Why did you join the Hendersonville Fire Department?
I applied to the Hendersonville Fire Department while still living
in Knoxville, Tennessee. I had just graduated from the
University of Tennessee and was in the process of
moving to Hendersonville. It would be almost 2 years before I
was hired to become a member of the department.
After 15 years, I still love my job and still love the city.
What do you like most about the Hendersonville Fire Department?
In 1995, there were only 4 fire stations in the city and every
firefighter knew every firefighter. It is now 15 years later
and now with 6 stations, the department has more than doubled
and every fireman still knows every fireman by first name,
and yes, even Chief Steele knows every fireman by first name.
What is the most significant development in your career?
The Thermal Imaging Camera better known as the TIC would
have to be the most significant development since I started
working at HFD. This technology has given us the ability to see
more while inside a house filled with smoke that might have
zero visibility. This visibility allows us to search and find victims
more quickly and much safer.
Any community activities?
After seeing first hand, the damage the May floods caused some
of the residents of Hendersonville, my wife Dana put together
a fundraiser that helped to raise over $14,000.00 for the
victims of the flood. Numerous Hendersonville businesses
donated to this auction making it a huge success.
What are your future plans?
Currently I am a full time student pursuing my Paramedic License.
After completing this in June, I plan to continue my
career with the HFD as a FF/Paramedic and
then continue my education through HFD.
Tell us about your family
I have been married to my beautiful wife Dana for 10 years
and I have the best stepson in the world, Tanner.
