Firefighter Spotlight

Senior Firefighter Jerry Bilbrey

Why did you join the Hendersonville Fire Department?

I can remember as a child going to the firehouse for a fire safety class.  The firefighters that day

showed in many ways that they really cared about us learning fire safety.  Their kindness and

enthusiasm really made a difference in me and helped me in finding a great career.

What you like most about Hendersonville Fire Department?

I love the brotherhood that this department has shown me.  I know that if I ever need

anything at all, these guys will be there for me.

What is the most significant development in your career?

My most significant development would be helping others in need.  Over the course

of my career, I have learned that when people call on us, they are usually in desperate

need of help.  This career has shown me how important it is to be there during their difficult time

and show them compassion while helping them.

Any Community Activities?

I have enjoyed being involved with the Hendersonville Samaritan Center and also helping the

children shop during the Christmas 4 Kids Event every year.

  What are your future plans?

My future plans are to continue my fire service education, work on my leadership skills

and increase my career advancement opportunities.

Family?

I have a wonderful, loving wife name Jessica (age 29), an awesome son named Ty (age 3 ˝),

and another child on his way.  He will be arriving in May, 2013.

I would like to thank all of those who have impacted my career and made a difference in me.

My thanks go to those who didn’t know me and gave me a chance anyway, to those

who did know me and believed I could do it.  For that, I say “Thank You”.
