Senior Firefighter, EMT Mark Jurgens
Why did you join the Hendersonville Fire Department?
After spending years in management for Corporate America, I was ready for a change.
I saw in the paper that HFD was hiring and with my military background
and love of adventure I knew the fire service would be something I would love
and enjoy for a long time.
What you like most about Hendersonville Fire Department?
I have always appreciated camaraderie in whatever field I am in. With HFD, it is
definitely a tight knit community within. I truly enjoy and value all the
friendships and bonds Iíve made in my 10 years with HFD.
What is the most significant development in your career?
Honestly, my whole career is a continuing development and learning experience.
I came into the fire service with no knowledge of how to be a firefighter.
My job is a constant learning experience and I learn new things and skills each shift.
What are your future plans?
I completed my EMT-IV Certification in December 2011 and hope to use
that experience to extend and enhance my patient care abilities in the field.
I also hope to test for Captain within the next few years.
I have the amazing honor of raising a family of 5 with my girlfriend Hilary.
The children range in age from 4 years old to 11 years old.
It has been a privilege and an honor to serve the HFD for the last 10 years
and I look forward to my next 20.
