Senior Firefighter Mike Wilson
Why did you join the Hendersonville Fire Department?
I joined the fire department because I love helping people and
making a difference in our community.
What you like most about Hendersonville Fire Department?
There are many things I love about our department and the fire service, but what stands out most
is that everyone is family; you spend a third of your life with the people you work with,
you know their loved ones as well as you do your own. We get together off duty and do
things together, just like family.
What is the most significant development in your career?
The most significant development in my career is making it to a Senior Officer.
I joined the fire service at the age of 44, but I havenít let that slow me down
in trying to make a difference, also in saving someoneís life!! There is no
greater feeling to know that you have brought somebody from not breathing
and no heart beat, to sitting up in the bed the next day asking for something to eat.
Any Community Activities?
I help coach little league baseball; I also play softball in a co-ed league.
What are your future plans?
I plan on continuing my education in the fire service and to move up in the ranks until I retire.
I have been married to my wife Sil for 30 years and we have 3 children:
Michael with his two children Austin and Brady, Russell and his wife Lindsey
and Justin and his wife Alana.
I am Christian and attend Long Hollow Baptist Church. I love to camp, fish and the outdoors.
I love being with family. Hendersonville is a good place to work. The departments is growing,
but not to the point to where you lose touch with the other employees that you have worked
with in the past. We are all just one big brotherhood and if you need anything, all you have
to do is pick up the phone and someone will be there.
