Firefighter Spotlight - May 2014

Fire Inspector Nate Renzella

Why did you join the Hendersonville Fire Department?

I have wanted to be a firefighter since I was a small child. When I relocated to Middle Tennessee, I spent a considerable amount of time visiting many fire departments and talking to firefighters. I wanted to be part of a mid-sized, progressive fire department. Hendersonville soon became the obvious choice and it was the only department where I applied.

What do you like most about HFD?

I love that our department is small enough to know one another and large enough to explore multiple opportunities within the department to serve the public. The camaraderie of working shoulder to shoulder with like-minded people is unmatched in other professions.

What is the most significant development in your career?

In 2001, FEMA began issuing the Assistance to Firefighter Grants to help fire departments and their communities. These grants have aided our department and community immensely by obtaining critical equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and personnel.

Are you involved with any community activities?

I play ice hockey several nights each week and I am a member of the Nashville Fire Department hockey team. I also thoroughly enjoy coaching basketball, baseball, and roller hockey.

What are your future plans?

I plan to work diligently to make our fire department the best it can be.

Family Information

I married an extraordinarily patient and kind woman nearly nine years ago. We were fortunate to embark on a journey as parents a little over a year ago.
